Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on Frank

Spurs supporters who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "they cannot be true Spurs fans" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham conceded a pair of goals in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth Premier League at home defeat of the year.

But the primary talking point was Fulham's second score when the keeper lost possession well outside his area.

He ventured out to handle a high pass and took the ball near the touchline.

However, rather than booting it out of play, the Italy international turned and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the touchline measured at 36.6 yards.

Moments afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, a number of Spurs fans jeered him.

The team were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.

One of those booing episodes truly angered Frank.

"I heard a few of our fans reportedly jeered the situation and jeered after, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Dane stated regarding the fans' response to his shot-stopper.

"[They] can't be real Spurs supporters that do that. Alright jeering after the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing each other, we are behind each other going forward."

Tete had handed the visitors a early lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second period showing.

Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the second score was "completely preventable".

"I do appreciate the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I know the part the keeper is playing. He is a great squad member, he's a real figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your actions.

"He was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the winning score."

'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Game

Italy national team the keeper is in his third campaign with Spurs.

The 29-year-old stated after the game that he had to take the criticism.

"That goal was a error of my own, I accept responsibility for it," he said.

"My aim was to kick the ball far and I simply hit the ball in a bad manner. That made an even bigger challenge to overcome."

He said being booed "is part of the game".

"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "The team can't be affected by the circumstances in the crowd. Supporters have the right to do what they think.

"It is on us to stay more calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is lacking in composure and calmness to overturn results. This match is a poor loss and it's tough to take."

'I Was Surprised Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'

Despite Vicario's error, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the next most distant Premier League score of the season – after Adams' 43.3 metre goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which interestingly too occurred on the same day.

The goalscorer said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open net to aim for.

10 moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was 5 moments following the kick.

"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for a long time," he remarked.

"It amazed me none of the back four returned to the line. When not one of them defended the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"Udogie fell too, which allowed me a bit of extra opportunity. Then it was solely about trying to achieve the correct connection and get it on target. I felt a good sense, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Appears to Go Against You'

Booing While We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager

Although Vicario's mistake dominated headlines, this was an overall poor performance for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.

The match was their 10th home loss of 2025 in the league, a joint team record matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

The side still have home fixtures against the manager's former club the Bees and title holders Liverpool to play before the end of the year.

Only one of those victories have occurred after the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"If you are down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," said the boss.

"During in a bad spell, all aspects seems to work against you too – the first was a redirected shot, the next is a mistake from Vic.

"This result puts us in a position where we have suffered another match. Each fixture has a single narrative, this game we lost in the first six minutes.

"We just need to continue striving. The second half was much better and with luck something we can utilize to develop."

Spurs have been defeated in four consecutive home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.

Furthermore they are averaging nine point five shots and three point two shots on target per game in the Premier League – their lowest averages on file in a one season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He's got take the stick," the pundit remarked. "He's taken a high profile role at a huge team with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
