Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for questions to be asked about his position following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Response
The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period like this with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
