Operations Recommence at Scotland's Busiest Airport In the Wake of Major Air Traffic Control Outage

A systems problem at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no aircraft could enter or leave the facility.

Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a major ATC system failure halted all operations.

All aircraft movements were stopped because of an systems problem that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in jets at the stand during the disruption.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, ongoing issues are expected to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

A spokesperson had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their individual travel plans," was the consistent advice.

Cause of the Chaos

Officials linked the operational halt to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Travelers are still being urged to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the airport as backlogs are worked through.
