Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
