Jurgen Klopp says coming back to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that returning someday remains an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell that included Champions League success and the Premier League crown for three decades, currently occupies roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title in the previous campaign, but many fans holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the notion of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he told Steven Bartlett: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club within the country. Which implies in case it's my former club...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about the specific conditions would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, however, dining out with the players having a nice chat, is pleasant. With many victories meaning regularly positive atmosphere at the club. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears for example.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role for the tweaks which secured the championship last term. They've been defeated four in a row in every contest following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. An outstanding player. Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good well-judged squad. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a player he signed in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. Jota was killed in a road accident with his brother this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It’s not about his footballing ability, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment without him in it. Putting it into words is tough about it. A devastating blow for the entire squad as well. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Coping with it on a personal level is not easy. Overwhelming.”
